Kenyan Beef and Potato Pilau
Beef with rice and potato in a broth filled seasoned with Pilau massala.
Step 1/3
Sauté Aromatics and Beef
Heat oil in a pot over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing until softened and fragrant, about 2-3 minutes. Add the diced beef, cooking until browned on all sides, approximately 5-6 minutes.
Step 2/3
Add Spices and Rice
Stir in cumin seeds, ground coriander, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, salt, and pepper, cooking for another minute until the spices are fragrant. Add the rinsed white rice and diced potato, stirring to coat everything with the spices and beef mixture.
Step 3/3
Cook and Serve
Pour in the beef broth or water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 20-25 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the liquid is absorbed. Once cooked, fluff the pilau with a fork and serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro if desired.
